OWNA Charleston

This summer, the Preservation Society of Charleston (PSC) is spearheading an architectural field survey for the historic Byrnes Downs and Old Windermere neighborhoods of West Ashley. Early to mid-20^th century historic resources are under-documented in Charleston, and this initiative will support a greater understanding of architectural and cultural heritage from an era that deserves more attention.

The project team will photograph, document, and research historic and culturally significant buildings to advance future efforts to produce National Register Historic District nominations in collaboration with neighborhood residents. In addition to a comprehensive architectural survey, the project team will create an ArcGIS StoryMap to share information about neighborhood history and character with West Ashleyresidents and the broader public.
